How to calculate the time between two times

Convert each clock time to minutes after midnight, then subtract the start from the end. For an interval that crosses midnight, add 24 hours to the end before subtracting. The calculation runs instantly in your browser.

Calculating time across midnight

If your interval crosses midnight, choose “Next day” for the End day. For example, 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM with End day set to Next day is 5 hours. The calculator never silently assumes the next day — if you leave End day on “Same day” and the end time is earlier than the start, it asks you to choose Next day instead of guessing.

Hours and minutes vs. decimal hours

The result shows both forms: 8 hours 30 minutes is the same as 8.5 decimal hours. Decimal hours can be convenient when you need to add times together or use them in another calculation.
