Business-Day Calculator
Add or subtract business days from a date, or count the Monday–Friday business days in a date range. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) are excluded automatically. Public holidays are not automatically excluded. Free and instant — the calculation runs in your browser with no sign-up.
How the Business-Day Calculator works
A business day in this calculator is Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are excluded. You can either move a date forward or backward by a number of business days, or count the business days in a date range. All dates use a plain calendar date (no time of day), so time zones and daylight saving never change the result.
Adding and subtracting business days
When you move a date by one or more business days, the start date itself is not counted — the calculation begins on the next calendar date (or the previous one when subtracting) and counts only Monday–Friday days. For example, Friday plus 1 business day is the following Monday. If you enter 0 business days, the start date is returned unchanged.
Counting business days in a date range
Range mode includes both the start and end date. Each endpoint counts only if it falls on a Monday–Friday. "Weekend days excluded" is the number of Saturdays and Sundays inside the range — not public holidays, which are not modeled.
Does this calculator exclude holidays?
No. It excludes Saturdays and Sundays only. Public holidays vary by country, region, employer, and year, so they are not automatically excluded. If January 1 (or any other holiday) falls on a Monday–Friday, this calculator treats it as a business day. It also does not use your location or any company work calendar.
Frequently asked questions
- What counts as a business day?
- Monday through Friday.
- Are public holidays excluded?
- No. Saturdays and Sundays are excluded automatically; public holidays are not.
- Does the start date count when adding business days?
- Not when moving one or more days. The calculation begins with the following calendar date. If you enter zero business days, the original date is returned.
- Does the date range include both dates?
- Yes. Range mode is inclusive of both endpoints.
- What happens if the start date is on a weekend?
- For an add or subtract calculation, weekend dates are not counted as business days, so the calculation moves to the appropriate weekday as it counts.
- Can I subtract business days?
- Yes. Choose Subtract.
- Can I enter half a business day?
- No. This calculator uses whole business days.
- Does this account for my company’s work calendar?
- No.
- Does timezone affect the result?
- No. The calculation uses date-only values rather than times, so time zones and daylight saving do not change the result for the same entered dates.
